Chapter 15

I find it interesting that Strayer put both these topics together Science and Religion since most people stereotypically think they go against each other. Although many think these two topics should be independent, Strayer makes the case that these two topics correlate with each other through history. With science advancing and more people being interested, people were starting to challenge religious teaching and starting to adopt new ideas and new ways of thinking being more of a database society. This change help change ideas such as the solar system by astronomers Galileo and Copernicus.

Chapter 14 Part 2

In this chapter, the Slave trade is mainly discussed. Strayer explains how African slaves were purchased from tribes or captured in Africa and put on ship brought back to America. Once arriving in America they put up for sale in which they were bought mainly by plantation Owners to due hard labor, African women were sold sometimes sadly just for sex than rather labor work. Slavery in America became a racial issue in which they believed African people were made to do the slave work. Note not all everyone on the Slaves ships was purchased or captured from Africa some people were indentured servants meaning they voluntarily made an agreement with someone overseas to do labor work in exchange for their voyage to the Americas, these agreements will usually last for an average of seven years, then the servant would be free.

Chapter 14 Part 1

The British Empire was able to be part of the Sea trade just accumulation of more wealth but it was necessary for them to take any part since they basically were at all corners in the earth making profits of some sorts. One thing that really surprised me was comparing the SeaTrade to the Silk Roads the level of significances is given more to the Silk Roads but in reality, it's apparent that the Indian Ocean trade is bigger and had more nations and trading traffic, I say this because I remembered in elementary the teacher had three days of class instructed and it made it seem like it was the most significant old trading networks.
