Due to their advanced technological innovations, they started to have this feeling of superiority compared to other nations. They started to look at poor nations as uncivilized and savages. Europe's mass production meant they needed more raw resources and human labor, Europeans saw this as a chance to colonialize other nations with the raw materials and resources need for their production. Europeans colonized the nations of Asia, Africa, and Pacific Islanders. Many other nations started colonizing underdeveloped nations as a sign of wealth and power starting the age of colonization.

Enlightenment thinkers immensely started to think and question slavery in which they came to the conclusion that slavery should not exist since it violates human rights and to humans as well. As the world was adapting to the Industrial Revolution and capitalism there was no need for slavery it was no longer a necessity. Enlightenment thinker came up with three major concepts which were  abolitionism, nationalism, and feminism. These ideas focus on moral and human rights, this allowed for economic progression. Feminism started to grow widely in Europe in which it "echoed" across the Atlantic inspiring many feminist movements.

Chapter 16 Part 1

The Atlantic Revolution was Echo of the American revolution in which they want to preserve the right to the self-governed. Ideas from the Enlightenment is what pushed the Atlantic Revolution the three ideas that Echoed to inspire the revolution were equality, freedom/liberty, and popular sovereignty. Theses Ideas echoed through the Atlantic first inspiring North America, France, and Haiti. Till this day these ideas of the Enlightenment are followed and it is how most modern democracies reside that accommodates the public.I believe that Atlantic revolution still is not over as their many other countries that are desperately wanting to be free from an oppressing government in which they to will follow the same ideas of the Enlightenment.

Sisters of Notre Dame Handout

I wasn't really that familiar with the history of the SIsters of Notre Dame but after reading this handout I learned a lot of what the Sisters and NDNU really stand for. It is very incredible to know the backgrounds of some of the sisters and know the struggle they went to just to make what NDNU is today. It some sense their backgrounds remind of my parent as they went through similar struggles to put me in the place where I am today. I was able to talk to one of the sisters in which she discussed to me about sister Dorothy and how brave and committed she was to help the farm workers get rights and land in the oppressing environment they lived in, which at one point she stated that she wished she could have met sister Dorothy. Although sister Dorothy is not alive today her spirit is very alive with thin the sister and and is an inspiration and role model for the rest of NDNU.
